2015 Phillis Wheatley Book Awards

Great news! A Light Shines in Harlem is one of three finalists in the non-fiction category of the 2015 Phillis Wheatley Book Awards. The winner will be announced at a gala event on Friday, July 17, on the campus of Columbia University. Other finalists are Breaking Ground: My Life in Medicine by former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Louis W. Sullivan and Businessman First, Remembering Henry G. Parks Jr. by Washington, D.C.- based author Maurice W. Dorsey.

The Wheatley Awards, given by the Quarterly Black Review and the Harlem Book Fair, honor books chosen for their "literary work and advocacy that transcends culture, boundary and perception."

These and other books will be sold at the Harlem Book Fair on Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m-5 p.m. on West 135th Street from Lenox Avenue to Frederick Douglass Blvd. Come on out to browse through lots of great books!
